PMC system – ceramic membrane

Glossary of ETL Verfahrenstechnik GmbH

The PMC system is characterized by the use of one or more PMC ceramic membranes for the efficient filtration of liquids, particularly wastewater. It is ideally suited for aeration processes and effluent streams in wastewater treatment plants and offers both indoor and outdoor solutions. For medium to high levels of contamination, both system variants rely on the reliability and performance of ceramic membranes.

Ceramic membranes provide maximum mechanical and chemical stability with minimal flow resistance. They consist of a support structure made of pure α-Al2O3 with a macroporous structure. The membrane itself is applied on top and typically consists of multiple layers of highly porous ceramic with precisely defined properties. In the PMC system, the separation limit of the finest-pored layer is 0.45 μm.

Ceramic elements are used globally in various filtration systems and offer numerous advantages such as long service life, wear resistance, and temperature stability. They are also resistant to acids, alkalis, and solvents, and can be regenerated and backflushed.

The PMC system can be combined with online analysis and measurement systems for reliable process control. The membrane surface is dirt-repellent due to its fine pores and special coating, making it easier to clean. Manual or automatic cleaning is performed depending on the level of contamination.

With additional mechanical adapters, the membrane surface can be easily doubled or tripled by attaching additional ceramic membranes. This gives the system high flexibility and performance, even under demanding conditions.

For indoor installations, the PMC system can be used as a tank-based membrane setup. Wastewater continuously flows around the ceramic disc, while the treated permeate is extracted. This allows for constant and efficient filtration.

System maintenance is simplified by a practical quick-release mechanism. For outdoor use, optionally heated cabinets and filtrate lines are available to ensure optimal operating conditions.

Summary:

The PMC system uses specially developed ceramic membranes for efficient wastewater filtration, particularly in wastewater treatment plants. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and offers high reliability and performance. The membranes are made of durable materials and can be easily cleaned. The system can also be integrated with online analysis systems to control plant processes. It offers flexibility and efficiency, even under demanding conditions.
